When I was approached by Visit Jersey to visit the island and try their amazing food, my answer was pretty simple: count me in!

The whole purpose of the trip was to showcase what Jersey has to offer, focusing on the amazing quality of Jersey’s fresh and natural produce, including Jersey’s Big Four: Oysters, Lobster, Dairy and Jersey Royals Potatoes.

Jersey is a small island – just 9 miles by 5 miles – meaning nothing is too far away, especially the sea which is never more than 10 mins away. There is so much history, you can do adventurous sports, scenic walks and of course, enjoy amazing food.

Jersey is an island where the sea and the land offer you an abundance of fresh delights and the islanders even have a saying: ‘The food tastes better when you see the sea’. I was born and raised by the sea, but it was only during this trip that I realised how true this is. Luckily I had plenty of opportunities to dine with sea views during this trip!

Let me tell you all about my 3 days trip with Visit Jersey

Day 1

My foodie adventure started with a healthy take on Jersey’s food scene – Nude Food at the beach in La Haule, a whole food café with a very clean and light space with a view over the sea. Their healthy menu offers a variety of options, some of them being vegetarian and vegan. From natural juices and smoothies to delicious breakfast and lunch choices such as pancakes, eggs, salads and toasts, they incorporate locally sourced and seasonal produce whenever they can.

I went for the Sunrise Juice and the organic sourdough bruschetta with smoked salmon, free range poached eggs, avocado, beetroot hummus, mushrooms, spinach and cherry tomatoes – a great selection of nutritional ingredients that will make you leave with a smile on your face!

After the lovely brunch I walked back to St Helier – around 45mins in total – and headed to Dandy, a lovely coffee shop (with two locations). It specialises in serving delicious coffee and a selection of cakes, pastries, and breakfast dishes.After a very much needed coffee, I spent the afternoon wandering around the quaint streets of St Helier window shopping, and after a couple of hours I ended up in the The Central and Beresford Street Markets, where they have stands not only selling fresh and local produce but also books, antiques, homeware and flowers. You can also find a vast variety of restaurants around the area!

In the evening, I was lucky enough to have a fabulous dinner at Oyster Box, a beachside and sophisticated restaurant in St. Brelade, family-owned since 1954. Its chic and airy look, with dark blue tones contrast with sandy whites, and the windows immediately transport you to the beach, so you’re able to take in the view whilst you enjoy deliciously cooked food. 

Oyster Box’s menu includes a wide range of fish, shellfish and meat dishes with regularly changing specials. They also offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options.

Their ethical sourced seafood – local line-caught fish, hand-dived scallops, Jersey-grown fruit and vegetables and of course, the fresh oysters, are what make Oyster Box one of the best restaurants in the Island. I would highly recommend taking a trip here!

I followed the locals recommendations and had beautifully cooked scallops with pea purée, crispy pancetta and garlic butter for starter, followed by a Red Mullet over squid ink and lobster tagliatelle. Following this, I ended my gorgeous first day in Jersey on a sweet note with a pistachio crème brûlée with raspberry sorbet and shortbread for pudding.

I couldn’t have left any happier!

Day 2 

I took the bus from St. Helier to St. Ouen’s Bay to have breakfast at Le Braye bright and early.

I loved Le Braye as soon as I saw its maritime decor. The white wooden tables and fencing, blue and sand tones, striped deckchairs and the beautiful view over the bay were just idyllic.

Le Braye is a family owned business and has been delighting it’s customers with it’s simple yet amazing food. From breakfast to dinner, there’s so much to choose from their menu!

I had the pleasure to be there for brunch, and out of all the amazing options, I went for the Healthy Heart Breakfast – Le Braye muesli, creamy Jersey yoghurt and fruity compote – it was the perfect start to the day, and prepared me for my long walk along the bay! It was just right!

Beaches in Jersey have been voted amongst the most beautiful in Europe. From crescent moon bays to far stretches of sand, there’s a lot to explore. You can walk, sunbathe and swim in the clear waters. During my walk along St. Ouen’s Bay up to L’Etacq, I passed by dog walkers, tourists, and surfers. Everyone was relaxing and enjoying the sea breeze.Once I got to L’Etacq I took the bus to my next destination – Classic Farm Shop.

The Classic Farm Shop, located in St. Peter’s Village, is the home of an independent Dairy Farm and the Jersey Cows.

I went there to visit these little friends, as you can meet the calves here. You can also pop next door to the Classic Tea Room to take a little break!After this experience I went back to the beach side and decided to unwind at the Portelet Bay Café.

To get to this family run café, located right on the beach, you have to be prepared to walk a fair few stairs…but it’s definitely worth it!

With a view over the bay and Janvrin’s Tomb, this quaint café specialises in wood fired pizza. It also serves diners seasonal fresh fish and seafood options, like oysters, which was what I decided to have with a refreshing fizzy drink whilst watching people enjoying the sunshine at the beach. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming, it’s the perfect spot to unwind! If it had been slightly warmer when I was there, I would’ve definitely gone for a swim before dinner!

After that little break, I made my way to my last stop for the day: Mark Jordan at the Beach.

You can find it in the south coast of the island, only a few steps from the beach. The casual and relaxed ambience plus the amazing food are probably some of the factors that led the restaurant to be awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA Rosettes!

But before I tell you what I had for dinner, I’d like to talk a little about the Chef, Mark Jordan. When Mark Jordan moved to the island in 2004 to join the team at Ocean Restaurant in The Atlantic Hotel, he had already had a long career as a chef and gaining experience from working with renowned names in the industry. During his time at The Atlantic Hotel, Mark helped the restaurant to hold the place as one of the most highly ranked hotel restaurants in the UK with four AA Rosettes and a Michelin Star!

In 2011, Mark Jordan at the Beach opened, the new chef’s venture, and since then they’ve been serving a menu of honest, quality food with fresh and locally sourced produce. It’s safe to say that everyone who visits this bistro leaves with a big smile. The authentic and amazingly cooked dishes delight everyone who tries them, and I was one of those lucky ones.

I started with a lovely tomato croissant with salty butter, for then went for the crab on toast and seared jersey scallops with pulled pork, a celeriac truffled espuma and an apple salad.  I then tried Chef Mark’s signature Jersey squid priceless risotto, scallop carpaccio and pickled cauliflowers. For pudding I went for the impressive Chocolate Surprise with valrhona dulcey cremux, exotic fruit and coconut streusel.

And this is how you do it in Jersey, living my best life by the sea and eating the most delicious food!

Day 3

My third and last day in Jersey was spent in St Helier.

After breakfast I made my way to The Fresh Fish Company, located on the Victoria Pier.The Fresh Fish Company is a little retail shop that can easily go unnoticed if you are not a local or don’t know about it. It is managed by Vicky and her brother Louis, where they sell – as the name says – fresh fish and shellfish, lobster and oysters, veggies like the Jersey Royals Potatoes, and even bread, fruit and condiments – most of them locally sourced and made.

They receive the fish and seafood from local, Channel Island, French and English fishermen, and then prepare them to sale to local restaurants, hotels and walk-ins.

It was amazing meeting Vicky and listening to her stories. Her clients love her and I truly understand why. Vicky and Louis are very passionate about what they do and it shows that they know exactly what they are selling and where the produce is coming from, which is really important to keep the quality of their products and maintain their clients trust!

My final stop in Jersey was Locke’s.

Known for serving quality coffee and delicious food, Locke’s is now a favourite in St. Helier. Inspired by the Australian café culture, they offer a seasonal and healthy menu, which includes vegetarian and vegan options as well as dairy and gluten free. Definitely a place where everyone can enjoy good food, good coffee whilst listening to music in a gorgeous space.

During the couple of hours I spent at Locke’s, I saw many people coming in to grab a coffee, or sitting down for a quick bite. Some stayed for longer and enjoyed their food looking out the windows or seated at the velvety blue sofas. I spent my time sipping my chai latte whilst catching up on my emails and preparing to head back to the hotel to get my transfer back to the airport. I had such a great time in Jersey. I loved trying Jersey’s Big Four and exploring the island, and it’s definitely a place I would love to visit again since it’s so easy and quick to get to from London (less than 1 hour flight) or even from the English coast by boat!

      I do need to focus more on my blog though, I have so much fun writing and sharing my trips 🙂
