Living in a big city like London has its perks but it’s nice to get away from our hectic lives once in a while, even if it’s only for one night, hence why, when the opportunity to stay at the picturesque Swan Inn arose, I had to say yes!
The Swan Inn, based in the Cotswolds, has been welcoming guests since the 1600s and it is now part of Country Creatures, a growing family of hotels, inns & restaurants focused on Great British Hospitality.
Here’s what we were up to at The Swan Inn:
A Girls Trip
I met my friend Catarina at Paddington and after getting a coffee we boarded the train that took us to the countryside. After the one hour and half train ride we arrived to Ascott-under-Wychwood.
From the station to the Inn was a short walk, 2 minutes if that much, but it was cold and dark so we were looking forward to a warm up by the fireplace. When we walked in we were immediately met by the friendly staff who took care of the check in and took us to our bedroom, a spacious room with deep green walls and rustic features.
After checking the room we decided to make our way downstairs for the glass of wine before dinner. We sat by the fireplace, with two glasses of wine and warmed up whilst we listened to music.
After relaxing for a bit we were directed to our table were we indulged in a fabulous dinner, delicious food and wine.
We started with a delicious Black Truffle, Wild Mushroom & Roasted Garlic Tarte Flambée and the Truffle Roasted Cauliflower, Salt Baked Beetroots & Hazelnuts .
After the tasty starters we moved on to the mains, Smoked Haddock Monte Carlo and Beef Cheek & Smoked Bacon Pie.
Sadly, after all this delicious food, we were unable to try the desserts but I’m sure they were all amazing!
After dinner we went up to our room and watched a tv show with our cups of tea until it was sleeping time!
A relaxing day in the countryside
The next day we woke up bright and early, the weather was slightly gloomy but we didn’t mind as we were so cosy under the covers and looking outside.
We got dressed and went down for breakfast, we sat in one of the corner tables by a window and enjoyed a light breakfast before heading out for a walk around The Swan Inn.
After a short walk in this little village, we went back to the inn and enjoyed a bit of quiet time by the fireplace, again, before heading out for lunch!
We had lunch booked at The Chequers, a traditional pub in the nearby village Churchill, a short 15 minutes car ride away. We were welcomed with smiles and seen to our table where we were presented to the menu with delicious options.
For starters we decided to share the Twice Baked Cheddar Soufflé with Spinach & Grain Mustard and the Gorgonzola with Figs, Walnuts, Rocket & Honey and for mains, Catarina had the Homemade Tagliatelle with Wild Mushrooms, Chestnuts, Black Truffle & Tarragon and I went for the Roasted Pumpkin with Kale, Sage, Red Onion & Pine Nuts, both veggie options.
After this delicious lunch we went back to The Swan Inn, we took the opportunity to relax a bit more by the fireplace in the countryside before heading back to London!
We had such a great time at The Swan Inn, everything was perfect, and I wish I could go back every single weekend!
